COURSE TERMS & CONDITIONS

Last Updated: October 3, 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to all in-person and online courses offered by Cider Institute of North America, doing business as Cider Institute.

1. Registration & Payment

Registration is confirmed upon receipt of payment or an approved payment arrangement. Participants must meet all course prerequisites and be at least the legal drinking age in their jurisdiction when a course involves alcohol tasting or consumption, unless otherwise stated.

2. Fees

Course fees cover only the items specified in the course description. For online courses involving sensory evaluation, international participants are responsible for sourcing their own cider in accordance with local laws and Cider Institute guidance. Unless otherwise stated, participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging, meals, visas, equipment, and other personal expenses.

3. Cancellations & Refunds

Participant cancellations are subject to the following policy:

  • More than 60 days before the course: Full refund less the registration administration fee.

  • 30–59 days before the course: 50% refund less the registration administration fee.

  • Less than 30 days before the course: No refund.

With prior approval, a participant may transfer their registration to another qualified individual. At the Cider Institute's discretion, a credit toward a future course may be offered in place of a refund.

The Cider Institute reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a course due to insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, facility issues, severe weather, natural disasters, public health emergencies, government restrictions, or other circumstances beyond its reasonable control. If the Cider Institute cancels a course, participants will receive a full refund of course fees. The Cider Institute is not responsible for travel expenses, lodging, lost wages, or other incidental or consequential costs.

The Cider Institute may make reasonable changes to course content, instructors, schedules, facilities, or delivery format when necessary. Such changes do not automatically entitle participants to a refund.

4. Certification & Certification Marks

Completion of a course does not automatically result in certification. Where certification is offered, participants must meet all applicable requirements, which may include attendance, examinations, assignments, practical assessments, sensory evaluation, and academic integrity requirements.

The Cider Institute reserves the right to withhold or revoke certification when certification requirements have not been met or when there has been fraud, misconduct, or other violation of these Terms.

Cider Institute certification marks, including "Certified Cidermaker", are used to identify individuals who have successfully completed the applicable Cider Institute course and certification requirements. Certification marks demonstrate educational achievement and completion of the applicable requirements; they are not product endorsements, quality seals, or marketing certifications for cider, perry, or other products.

Certification marks may not be used in a manner that suggests that the Cider Institute endorses, approves, guarantees, or certifies a product, brand, business, or production method. Any public use of a Cider Institute certification mark must follow the Cider Institute's applicable mark-use requirements and all applicable laws and regulatory requirements. The Cider Institute may require correction or discontinue authorization to use a certification mark if it is used improperly or in violation of these requirements.

5. Participant Conduct & Alcohol Consumption

Participants are expected to maintain a safe, professional, and respectful learning environment. Participants must follow instructor directions, facility safety rules, and applicable laws and must refrain from harassment, discrimination, or disruptive conduct.

Courses involving cider production may include alcohol tasting or consumption. Participants are responsible for complying with applicable laws and for consuming alcohol responsibly. Participants must not drive, operate equipment, or engage in other activities while impaired.

Failure to meet these expectations may result in removal from a course, suspension of access, or ineligibility to complete certification requirements. Participants are encouraged to report conduct or safety concerns to course staff as soon as possible.

6. Intellectual Property

All course materials are the intellectual property of the Cider Institute or their respective authors, instructors, or contributors. Materials may not be copied, distributed, uploaded, resold, or publicly shared without prior written permission.

To protect educational content, instructor intellectual property, and participant privacy, participants may not record, transcribe, screen capture, or otherwise reproduce live course sessions without prior written permission from the Cider Institute. This includes third-party and AI-powered recording, transcription, meeting assistant, and automated note-taking tools. Course materials and session content may not be uploaded to, shared with, or used to train or provide context to third-party AI systems without prior written permission.

Personal handwritten or typed notes for individual educational use are permitted.

7. Photography & Recording

The Cider Institute may photograph or record courses for educational, archival, or promotional purposes.

Participants who do not wish to appear in promotional photographs or recordings may notify Cider Institute staff before or during the course. Choosing not to participate in promotional photography or recording will not affect participation in the course.

8. Accessibility

Participants requesting accommodations should contact the Cider Institute as early as possible. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as required by applicable law and whenever reasonably possible.

9. Limitation of Liability

Participation in Cider Institute courses is voluntary. Participants are responsible for their own conduct and for complying with applicable laws and safety requirements. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Cider Institute is not liable for personal injury, property damage, travel disruptions, lost wages, or indirect or consequential damages arising from participation in a course, except where such liability cannot legally be excluded.

10. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent that applicable law requires otherwise.

ONLINE LEARNING & DIGITAL CONTENT TERMS OF USE

These additional terms apply to online courses, webinars, subscriptions, digital resources, AI-powered tools, and other learning materials provided by the Cider Institute through its online platforms.

1. License & Accounts

Enrollment or purchase grants a personal, non-transferable license to access the applicable course or digital content for the period specified at purchase.

Accounts and login credentials may not be shared or transferred. Participants are responsible for maintaining account security and reporting unauthorized access.

2. Use of Course Materials

Use of online course materials is subject to the Intellectual Property & Recording provisions above. Course materials are provided for individual educational use and may not be reproduced, redistributed, resold, or publicly shared without prior written permission.

3. Platform Access & Technical Requirements

Access to online courses and digital content is provided only for the period specified at purchase or enrollment. Participants are responsible for maintaining compatible devices, software, internet access, and other technical requirements necessary to access the platform.

Technical problems caused by a participant's equipment, software, internet connection, or failure to meet stated technical requirements do not qualify for a refund.

4. Subscriptions

Subscriptions renew according to the plan selected at purchase unless canceled before the next renewal date. Subscribers may cancel their subscription through their account or by contacting the Cider Institute. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not necessarily provide a refund for the current subscription period, except where required by law or stated otherwise at purchase.

The Cider Institute may add, modify, or remove subscription content, features, or benefits as the program develops.

5. Resource Library & AI Tools

The Cider Institute's resource library and AI-powered tools are provided for educational purposes only. AI-generated responses may contain errors or omissions and should not replace professional judgment. Users are responsible for verifying information before applying it in practice.

6. Academic Integrity & Community Standards

Participants must complete assessments honestly and conduct themselves respectfully in discussion forums, online communities, and other Cider Institute learning environments. The Cider Institute may suspend access or withhold or revoke certification for fraud, academic misconduct, harassment, or other violations of these Terms.

7. Privacy

Personal information is handled in accordance with the Cider Institute's Privacy Policy.

8. Changes

The Cider Institute may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms will be posted on the Cider Institute website or learning platform and, where appropriate, communicated to users. Continued use of the applicable platform or digital content after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
